1. Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena was more ferocious, more respected, and more people were ready for sacrifice. Udhav’s Shiv Sena has been more forebearing, or restraining than that of his father’s party. Also the support to the party is not as it was during Bala Saheb period.
2. Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena never compromised on principles and ideologies. It considered it's Hindutva more sacrosanct than other issues. For him other issues are mundane. Whereas for Udhav, the ideology of Hindutva a hindrance to his assent in politics. He has relegated it's importance to lower down. He considers defeating BJP, more important.
3. If Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena makes a sound, the entire administrative machineries were shivering and approach Bala Saheb with folded hands. Everyone were afraid of Thackeray. Now there is no such fear of Udhav.
4. Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena never kept it's options hanging. If the party is against any one or any party, even if the party or individual is powerful will go full hog against them. Also severe all connections with the same. But Udhav opposes BJP, and issue comments against BJP, but still continue the relationship . Such inconsistency is not seen in Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena.
5. No party member had any voice to even talk to Bal Thackeray let alone raise the voice against him. The rank and file were servile to Bala Saheb. He was a towing personality. Unlike his father Udhav is more submissive and withdrawn. He does not evoke the same response that his father was commanding.
