The world is online.These days , when we hear or read news , what do we notice ?

I thought it would be a good idea to consolidate the steps we can follow to keep ourselves safe online.
Even though complete privacy and security is a myth , let's try our bit to stay protected by following the below mentioned points :
- Trusted downloads only : Download files/softwares/apps which are mostly trusted and accepted as secure worldwide.
- Never ever click a random link : I know urge is there to click and see every other link but beware the link may either install malware on your phone or laptop or take you to a malicious page.
- Never open random emails : Please refrain from opening emails from strangers.
- Use strong Passwords : Use big and strong passwords.On a lighter note let your passwords be as complex as your life may be right now :p
- Backup your data : This is a good practise.If you have some important data in your phone or laptop you would never want to lose , copy that data and store it in external devices eg : a pendrive.
- Don't be loud : What I mean by this is , never say out loud your OTP / Card CVV or card pin.Even walls have ears.Beware !
- Don't share too much : Donot keep sharing every other stuff you see on internet.Also don't share too much of your personal information with strangers.
- Safe web browsing/surfing : While surfing the internet , please visit URLs or websites with https in them.Dont visit random sites.
- Update now : Major software and mobile app companies release latest versions which often include bug fixes and security enhancements to keep you protected.Respect them and update stuff to latest versions.
- Keep your privacy settings on : Most of the applications give you a facility to have enhanced privacy.Try to read about them and keep all your privacy settings on.
- Free wifi ? A bait : I know most of us love free stuff and free wifi is all we need.Please refrain from connecting to open/public wifi.
- Read read read : I know all these steps may seem just mere points to you on a Quora post but trust me a lot of losses are incurring because of cyber crimes.Read about these scams and frauds and you will understand the gravity of the situation.
As I write this post , I did pledge to myself that I will undertake all these steps asap and try my bit to remain secure.
