Biggest ironies | Shashi Tharoor

Do you remember when, in 2015, Shashi Tharoor bashed the British argument—” The British-rule has given India so many things.” In the debate ...

In the debate organized in the UN, Tharoor ridiculed the British claim by explaining how the British depredations had made India go bankrupt from being one of the richest countries.

His argument was purely logical, based on data and statistics, instead of being only rhetoric.

In the end, Tharoor has made his point— “Britain owes India an apology.” [1]

In an interview with “Al Jazeera,” Tharoor was asked—

“You slammed Britain for atrocities they did to India and asked for an apology. Don’t you think, in the years to come, the Kashmiris would ask India for an apology on the same grounds?”

Tharoor replied—

“My argument was purely based on the economic argument. In India, the economic contribution made by the rest of India to Kashmir is huge.”

After some time, he was asked—

The Amnesty has been publishing reports after reports, saying that soldiers have impunity in Kashmir (He wanted to say that crimes of soldiers to the civilians is always ignored)

Tharoor said: “There have been Court Marshals, convictions, and trials.”

Reporter: “But not in civilian court.”

Tharoor: They have been tried in Civilian Courts as well. Many policemen have been jailed.[2]

Another interview with Al-Jazeera—

Journalist—” You claim India to be one of the greatest democracy. But Arundhati Rai says that India is adopting a Fascism or totalitarian ideology.”

He replied— “Well since she is able to speak or write it freely, she can’t be entirely true. (He meant that if India wouldn’t be a democracy, Arundhati Rai wouldn’t be able to do so)[3]

In one more interview with Al-Jazeera

Journalist—” You have cleared it out that you won’t speak against India’s foreign policies even if you are in opposition.

But are you still not going to say anything against Narendra Modi who is believed to commit crimes against humanity in 2002?”

On this, he said two things—

  1. He is not accused by the court so it would be unwise to accuse him
  2. He won by a huge mandate. It is absolution in itself

Answer to the question—

Shashi Tharoor is a former UN diplomat, best-selling author of many books, He praises and supports the right things even done by the political-rivals (he faced troubles when he praised “Clean India”)

He is in opposition but he never speaks against the foreign policies of India.

But you ask any Indian “Who is Shashi Tharoor” and you will get one of these two answers—

  1. He is the one who speaks phenomenal English
  2. He is a hypocrite who killed his wife (Though, he has not been even in the suspect-list )

Isn’t it an irony?
