Last year, on the occasion of Republic Day (26th Jan 2015), PM Modi invited Mr. Obama as chief guest. Modi broke the protocol to greet President Obama at airport with hug and also addressed him as ‘Barack’. Later in toast at dinner Mr. Obama called PM Modi as ‘my partner and friend’.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, during daily news conference told reporters, "President Obama has found Prime Minister Modi to be somebody who is honest and direct, somebody who has good command of the facts, somebody who has a clear understanding of the issues that confront his country and our relationship. He (Modi) also is somebody that has a clear vision for where he wants to take his country, and it makes him not just an effective politician, but an effective Prime Minister. Obama certainly does respect Prime Minister Modi and has appreciation for his skills and abilities as a politician. He also is somebody who is given a very difficult challenge of sitting atop the world's largest democracy.”
This was how one of the President Obama’s top adviser Ben Rhodes recently described the bond between these two leaders to reporters:
"And then during the prime minister’s visit here I think they struck up a very good chemistry. They had a long discussion over dinner and then the next day, in addition to the meeting, I think it was very meaningful for the president to be able to visit the Martin Luther King memorial with Prime Minister Modi, given the links between Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. That speaks to kind of a shared sense of struggle and shared values between the United States and India, and they were able to discuss those issues. So they struck up a good chemistry."
These above two statements by US Officials clearly reflects the bond, the warm friendship between PM Modi and President Obama. Here are some images which shows the bond and friendship:
